BULB FESTIVAL 2010
April 17 and 18
The Planning Committee for the 2010 Festival is working toward an even bigger and better event. Plans include expansion of our refreshment choices, improvements in accommodations, and the addition of a Vintage Car Exhibit by the Shawnee Auto Club. We will post details here as soon as they come into being. Meanwhile, to convey the flavor of this event, we are providing below the information form the 2009 Festival.
Hollandia Botanical Gardens Bulb Festival ʻ09
FESTIVAL '09 WAS A MAJOR SUCCESS! THE EVENT ATTRACTED MORE THAN 1700 PEOPLE TO THE GARDEN SITE, ALMOST DOUBLING LAST YEAR'S TOTAL. WE ARE EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THIS SHOWING OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND GRATEFUL TO THE SPONSORS, SUPPORTERS, AND VOLUNTEERS WHO MADE OUR SUCCESS POSSIBLE. SO THAT VISITORS TO THE WEB SITE CAN SENSE THE CHARACTER OF THIS YEAR'S EVENT, WE ARE LEAVING IN PLACE THE INFORMATION POSTED IN APRIL.
The Bulb Festival is a preview of the planned public Garden that is to arise on our 11-acre site (map). Festival hours are Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Over a four-year period, HBG volunteers have planted 18,000 bulbs plus three sets of supplemental bulbs in twenty-four beds. Our goal is that the blooms will provide a glimpse of the much more extensive displays you will encounter at the site once the Garden is built. To see the plan for the Garden, including artist conceptions of selected portions, go to the Master Plan Pictures section.
In addition to the array of blooms, the Festival includes a variety of activities for adults and children as well as the opportunity to purchase high quality bulbs, other plants, and other interesting items for your home and garden. See the Event Schedule below. For a readily printable version, click the download schedule link just beneath the heading.
